The Daily Show: Occupy Wall Street Divided

Say what you will about The Daily Show, this is funny stuff. Also, if anyone wants to let me in on the difference between private property and personal property, I’d be forever grateful!

Fox News Special: Iran’s Nuclear Secrets

This aired a few weeks ago, and is worth checking out.

New Black Panthers: “…the hour of war is at hand.”

Yeah, this is a little troubling.

British Nanny State: School Bans Makeup, Bathroom Mirrors

Story is here: High school bans makeup, removes mirrors to crack down on teen vanity

On a personal level, I’m not a fan of makeup, especially on young teens. I feel it operates more as a security blanket than anything.

However…

It is totally up to the individual and/or their parents in the case of kids as to whether they wear the stuff. It is a troubling trend in western countries that schools are trying to parent the students. If the bathrooms are clogged, you set bathroom rules, you don’t step in with some insane rules about makeup and mirrors.

O’Reilly: Solyndra Scandal “…is like Enron 2″

Bill O’Reilly and ABC News’ Brian Ross discuss the Solyndra scandal. Not sure how this will shake out, but it isn’t looking good for the White House at the moment.

Just Keep Fiddlin’, Nero: Obama: “I Don’t Think We Are In Danger Of Another Recession”

I’d be willing to bet most people on the street think we’re already in another recession, so in that sense, I guess you could argue the danger has passed. Otherwise, I suspect the President needs some new advisers.

Death Of Journalism, Exhibit A: Lack Of Impartiality

Yep, that’s CBS’s Nora O’Donnell lamenting that they, “…gave them everything they wanted, and we got nothing.” Seems Ms. O’Donnell has forgotten that the job of the media is to report the facts, not promote an agenda.

Television’s days are numbered, and TV news cannot survive if reporters choose propaganda over journalism. Something else will take their place, and I’m curious to see what it is.

Ron Paul Not Running For Congress In 2012

Seems the good doctor is focusing all his energy on his Presidential campaign. Story is here.

Seems like a smart move on paper, as he has a better chance if he’s not spreading his resources over two campaigns, but I don’t think he has much of a chance to receive the Republican nomination, meaning one of the sane voices talking about how to fix the economy could be out of a job next year. Of course, we’re probably better off without his foreign policy ideas…

“Just Following Orders:” Rescue Crew Stands By & Watches Man Drown

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

First of all, I’m inclined to believe cutting water rescues was just a scam to get people to accept a tax hike. Sadly, a lot of towns and counties will first cut or threaten to cut stuff that the public sees as essential just to get more money. My city has done it a few time with the police force, yet always finds money somewhere to keep the cops when the tax hike is voted down.

I’m more curious about the first responders. I realize anyone going into the water would lose their job, but is the job market in California so bad that it’s worth letting someone die to stay employed? What am I missing here?

Reason TV: The Top Five Environmental Disasters that Didn’t Happen

What does this prove? Ultimately, nobody knows the future. There are plenty of unforeseen variable changes that made these predictions incorrect. It also doesn’t help that politicizing environmental issues led to a big bunch of fear mongering for political gain.

Explosion At Japanese Nuclear Plant

This video comes from breitbart.tv.

Things aren’t looking good. Depending on who you want to listen to, this could be as bad or worse than Chernobyl. Even if it isn’t, it’ll still be pretty bad.

Another Reason Walmart Scares Me: Napolitano Announces DHS Partnership With Retailer

CBS has the story here, but the gist of it is that several Walmart stores will have monitors at the checkouts playing a video encouraging people to look for, and report, suspicious activity. Sounds harmless enough, but something just doesn’t feel right about it. Can’t quite put my finger on it.

Rasmussen Reports: Voter Faith in Afghan Victory Hits New Low

Check it out here.

I’m no military expert, but I’d guess that any war that goes on this long will lose voter support. It just seems to be dragging on with no end in sight, and nobody wants a modern version of the Hundred Years War.

Reason.tv: Obama Gets Mythbusted!

Man, I love these guys! Fun little video, with an accompanying piece piece explaining their claims. That second video is after the jump:

Senate Blocks Obama’s Tax Plan

Washington Times has the story here.

Seems pretty clear that the cuts need to include everyone to pass, not just those making less than $250,000. Curious to see how this finally plays out, as the Bush tax cuts expire soon, and I’m sure voters of all economic classes won’t like the increase that results from that happening.

Fox News: Life Found Near Saturn? Update: Nope

Even though it’s probably just microbes (let’s face it, sci-fi movies have the average person expecting us to find a human-like form of life when the discovery is made), this is a big deal. Curious to see how this turns out.

UPDATE: This is what I get for being out of the loop most of the week, and assuming video just posted by Breitbart isn’t two days old. Turns out the whole “life near Saturn” thing was just assumption by the media & bloggers, and the NASA announcement had to do with arsenic-based life found in a lake in California: NASA’s ‘extraterrestrial’ announcement gets blown out of proportion

Breitbart.tv: Letterman’s Mom Doesn’t Believe Son’s Global Warming Hype

I have to admit, I stopped watching Letterman a while back because he started pushing a political agenda. Sometimes comedy + politics can be funny, but it’s not what I want out of late night TV.

That being said, I believe people, conservatives in particular, are making more of this than they should. Yes, Letterman probably disapproves of his mom’s stance on global warming. However, this is his shtick when dealing with his mom – he asks a question, she says something funny, the audience laughs, he shakes his head disapprovingly. They’ve been doing that for years, which is why it’s my belief he knew her feelings on this particular issue going in, and was just playing it for laughs. It isn’t as big of a deal as people are making it.

Jim Wallis: “There Wouldn’t Be A Tea Party If There Wasn’t A Black Man In The White House”

You know, right after Obama was elected, I was one of those people that thought we were moving towards a “post-racial” America. It looked as though we could finally judge politicians based on policies, not skin color. However, we seem to have spun off in another direction; instead of condemnation for skin color, we get accusations of racism for disagreement.

Don’t get me wrong, there are racists at Tea Party rallies that want Obama out simply because he’s black. There will always be people out there that hate others for stupid reasons. However, as a whole, the Tea Party movement came about because people didn’t like the way this country was going (in other words, opposition to big government), and that’s the driving force behind the group to this day.

Jim Wallis is crying racism because it’s a conversation ender. He’s trying to shut up his opponents.

Homeland Security Seizes Domain Names

It doesn’t surprise me that the government is seizing websites that violate copyrights, but I do have a question:  Why does this fall under the jurisdiction of Homeland Security?

Obama Elbowed During B-Ball Game, Gets Stitches

I’m sure you’ve heard the story by now, but you can find it here if your Black Friday shopping distracted you from the news of the day yesterday.

My first first thought when I saw this story was, “wow, you have to be a pretty brave person to throw an elbow at the President!” However, I now think that Rey Decerega, the elbower, must have a big brass set. Not only did he elbow Obama in the mouth, this was his response:

“I learned today the president is both a tough competitor and a good sport,” the statement said. “I enjoyed playing basketball with him this morning. I’m sure he’ll be back out on the court again soon.”

As Matt Drudge pointed out, he didn’t even bother to offer a public apology! That’s a vicious competitor right there!
